KNVC Carson City Community Radio has launched a new show to share weekly news and insights into the Carson City Land Use Master Plan update. Hosted by Paul Esswein, a former planning commissioner for Carson City, A Masterclass on Master Plans broadcasts live at noon each Friday with guest interviews and opportunities for listeners to join the conversation.
A long-time volunteer at KNVC, Esswein envisions his program as a channel to encourage community involvement in the City government’s master planning process, currently underway. Carson City’s most recent Master Plan was adopted in 2006. Last October, the City contracted with Clarion Associates, a national land use consulting firm, to help with the first major update of the Plan since then. The updated Plan is scheduled to be adopted in early 2025.
"When I served as a commissioner, the public would attend meetings to voice their opinions about a specific developments. Yet the Board’s decisions, once a project is at that stage, are guided by the Master Plan that’s already in place." Esswein tells KNVC. "Now is the opportunity for Carson’s community to be an important part of shaping the City’s goals, objectives and policies for future land development in our town."
As the Carson City official website notes "A Comprehensive Master Plan is a policy document that provides guidance on where and how the community should and will grow in the next 20 years." When implemented in 2025, Carson’s new Master Plan will inform needed Zoning Ordinance changes and also direct policy-makers’ decisions on future land-development projects.
Ongoing episodes of Paul’s show will explore issues that the new Plan can address, including an emerging Work from Home culture, mixed-used development, special-use permitting processes and other changes Carson has seen over the last seventeen years.
The premiere episode featured an interview with Carson City’s Community Development Director Hope Sullivan. Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell is the guest speaker on Friday, April 5. Esswein has a long list of future guests planned and also wants to hear from you. If you have questions or suggestions for Carson City’s next visionary roadmap for the future, reach out to Paul and KNVC on our Contact Page or through our Facebook Page at facebook.com/KNVC95.1FMCarsonCity.
A Masterclass on Master Plans can be heard every Friday at Noon on KNVC 95.1 Carson City Community Radio and streamed live KNVC.org.
It is with deep sorrow that we learned, along with the nation, of the passing of DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan. As initially reported by Kansas City Community Station KKFI 90.1 FM, where Lisa hosted the popular Taste of Tejano show on Tuesday nights, and then confirmed by national news networks, Lisa tragically lost her life during the Kansas City Superbowl Parade.
From KKFI's webpage and social posts, Lisa's life and spirit is mourned in the heartfelt comments and many memories shared. She was a vibrant member of KKFI 90.1 FM team and her passion for Tejano music and unwavering dedication to her craft left an indelible mark on her entire community. She will always be remembered for the joy she brought to her workplace and the incredible talent she shared with KKFI listeners.
During this difficult time for the KKFI community, the KNVC family extends our deepest sympathies to Lisa's family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. We recognize that her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, and we mourn alongside all who are feeling the weight of this loss.
Also as we reflect on this moment, KNVC recognizes that communities should be places of celebration, not violence. We want to work together with you to find a path to a safer, better future for everyone. In that spirit, we invite you to share your own thoughts with us through our contact page at KNVC.org.
