As I slowed down on my prior career, I was looking to volunteer in Carson City where I have lived for over 27 years. I came across an advertisement for volunteers at KNVC, so I offered to join the new Radio Station. When I interviewed for the DJ position I was asked what was my radio experience. I answered "I have listened to the radio for many years". Despite my lack of experience, I got the job! The Staff at KNVC have been great as they teach me about this new position. My show is on Wednesdays from 1 PM to 4 PM. The program is called "Your Music Prescription" as a reference to my career as a Physician over the past 37 years. Each show has a different theme with songs linked in some way. The songs are from the 1940's to current day with a concentration in the 1960's to 1980's. Please tune in for some fantastic music.

Sandie La Nae
Sandie La Nae, host of “Sandie’s Psychic Communiqué.” Every other Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. Having my own Access TV show since 2013, friend and host of the KNVC program “In The Studio With Deana Hoover,” invited me as a guest on her program to speak about the TV show, and also about the books that I’ve written. Deana mentioned the studio is looking for program hosts and suggested I send in an application. An interview followed with the then KNVC program director. A very short while later, KNVC’s newest program, “Sandie’s Psychic Communiqué,” was born...in March of 2018.

Joe McCarthy
Joe is a first generation Irishman. Both parents came from County Cork at the turn of the twentieth century, where they met, married and raised a family in New York City. Joe served in the US Army from 1968-1971. The Army eventually brought him west, a move for which he is forever grateful. He built his professional career and raised his family in Carson City. Joe and his wife now live in Silver City, an artist community just up the road from Carson City. He has held supervisory positions in the Nevada state government, including a stint as an education program director at the Nevada state prison. From 1995 to 2002, he was the executive director of the Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s hub for live theater, music, visual art, dance, and literary readings. He then served as Carson City’s economic development and redevelopment director for 11 years. After retiring, Joe volunteered for Open Sky Radio in Reno until 2017. In 2017, he founded and launched the 501c3 nonprofit, The End of the Trail Broadcast Project, the parent of Nevada Capital News and KNVC, Carson City Community Radio.

While working as a draftsman for a metal building company in Abilene, Texas, a fellow draftsman and I would sit on the porch on weekends with a bug zapper and a fairly-new format for radio (FM) for entertainment fantasizing about working for a radio station someday. 40-some years later, I was invited by Canyon White to play on her show here at KNVC and I totally liked what I saw. I had stopped listening to radio when my favorite station in Reno was taken over by a corporation that based programming on demographic-calculating algorithms such that I could almost predict which songs would be played on which days at which time. What I saw at KNVC was group of people with a mission to provide content based on the needs of the community defined solely by show hosts who are volunteers from that same community. What’s not to like? After retiring from a local manufacturing company, I needed something to keep my head busy. Helping engineer live and recorded shows for KNVC is a fine fit; besides keeping my head in a technical space with a positively-sloped learning curve, I’m sitting front-seat-close to some really remarkable local people both as hosts of shows and their guests. If you’re out there Carl, I hope you found a way to your fantasy as well. And I teach algebra at a local community college (icing on the cake).

I enjoy hosting Pop Standards each Tuesday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and helping out at KNVC in other ways during week. Many years ago I had part-time work at a commercial radio to help put myself through college. In those days we did news, weather, sports and a variety of music during our shifts. It was not a good way to make a fortune but it was a fun job. Fast forward a number of years and KNVC started here in Carson City. The station's search for volunteers opened a perfect opportunity for me to return to the enjoyment of so long ago. Some of the equipment has changed and there is lots of new software for radio production available today. Most important, however, are all of the great volunteers and program guests that I have met since starting here. Nearly every time I am at the station I learn something new or meet someone new. So, radio has remained a fun job for me, with emphasis on fun.
